Personally, the difficulty ranges feel a bit low, at least for the higher divisions since normal D6 songs are around 80-90, and D7 songs would usually be 91+ (I think)

The changes should now make things much more manageable and level for everyone. I hope that you all can take advantage of the bonuses for this round~

Going to make a slight alteration to the difficulty to bring this more on an even (and hopefully more fun) playing field. With this change, I hope to see more submissions without taking a trip on the strugglebus.

Difficulty Changes:
D1 - 10-19
D2 - 20-29
D3 - 30-39
D4 - 40-49
D5 - 50-59
D6 - 60-69
D7 - 70-79

The OP will be updated to reflect this as well.

These caps seem really really low. I think if you keep those caps, you'll turn round 1 into an AAAfest.

I mean, just to get into D6, a player should be able to get low SDGs on low-80s and an AAA on a 79+.

I think the biggest merits in a "Play what you want" round is that it enables players to showcase their skill. I understand that you don't want to end up with a ton of Undici scores (quadmashing it last night got me double the raw score I'd be able to get on a normal song), so why don't you keep your division difficulty MINs, but raise the max by 20 or 30 per division.

So, something like:

D1: 10-39 (or 29)
D2: 20-49 (or 39)
D3: 30-59 (or 49)
D4: 40-69 (or 59)
D5: 50-79 (or 69)
D6: 60-89 (or 79)
D7: 70-99 (or 89)

Doing so would enable players to play songs to the upper limits of their skill without allowing them to turn this into a quadmashing nightmare of a round.

Since I think I'm D3, this is my new submission.
I hope you can read the time stamp and it counts (but hooray for my newest AAA)

I'm keeping things the way they are. If Round 1 turns into a AAAfest, then so be it. Keep in mind that there are still four more rounds to go and your hunger for higher difficulties will be fulfilled~

Edit:
UPDATED TO HERE.

Oh goodness that FAQ section is outdated. I should recalculate those values for the difficulty revamp.

Alright, since I want actual competition, I will post this here

Pretty sure it meets all of the criteria.
Does the difficulty have to cap at 59, or can it be higher than 59?

Yeah it seems like D3 is going to just be "Who can do the best on The Entertainer", which is a shame 'cause it goes against the idea of a "play what you want" round :|

Yeah this is true of every division right now. The difficulties are low enough to where everyone can just play the highest notecount song in the given range under 210 seconds, meaning that we're likely going to be seeing the same 7 songs across the divisions, despite the name of the round.

Yup; I was looking forward to busting out some harder files to.. Well, motivate myself to improve, but it seems like that wont be happening anymore :|

I liked the idea here instead, for the record:

Considering 1000 points is only equivalent to 20 extra notes, the addition of it can be voided, even in D1, by playing a song of the same difficulty with only 20 more notes in the song. Since in higher divisions, maps can get up to 3000 notes within 3 and a half minutes, this automatically makes maps with less than 2980 notes not viable, even if they're easier to FC or even AAA.

This problem (at least in the case of division 6) can be lessened by changing the bonus points to be multiplied through instead of added to the total. Say the multipliers were as follows:
AAA: 1.5x
SDG: 1.25x
FC: 1.1x
Else: 1.0x
This would make more maps viable to players.

Take Return to Fire, a map with 2449 notes for a total of 122,450 points if it were AAA'd. As a D6 player, I'm not sure if I could AAA this, but I can SDG it. Take about 150 points out (6 goods worth of points) and multiply the total by the 1.25 multiplier stated above, and you reach a total of 152,875, which is definitely a higher total than D6 players would be able to get on oppIrish, which could be estimated around 149,000 points. If someone were able to say FC oppIrish, however, this total could be greatly increased to about 160,000, meaning that oppIrish is still viable, just harder to get a higher amount of points, which it should be, since the song is more difficult.

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness

I didn't like Toaphster's idea because this is a cumulative raw score tourney, and the giagantic difference a score multiplier introduces between an AAA/SDG/FC can get disadvantageous.

Kawaii had the right idea in introducing a difficulty cap, I just think he brought it way too low. In any case, it is what it is and I'm just treating it as though we were all assigned a song this round. No biggie.

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness

Toaphster's idea is on the right track but it then becomes the song with the most notes that you can AAA, and every difference of one note between your song and another person's will eventually equal 3 raw goods of difference between your scores (provided an AAA multiplier of 1.5x).
Cumulative raw scoring is incompatible with different song choices, period. The way things stand now, just AAA The Entertainer (if you're D3) and everyone can move onto round 2 with the same raw score for round 1, I guess.

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness

With the current rules, which I assume will stay that way, this is my submission. Took me a few tries more than it should have cuz I'm bad at AAAing ez songs, especially when they are on the longer side.

By using 60-69 only, that's what I end up having to play.
