Question about DDR edit mode. STUCK!

bleh. i have supernova and extreme 2. Now i want to put my own arrows to a song. ive heard of people doing it. its kewl. like i want to put arrows to Sakura or Daikenkai because Daikenkai is a push over now lol:-P
But, i get in there. and i cant do it. i can put arrows but i always get stuck because i cant figure out where the right place is to put the arrows. like for the best. any help here? :-)

you can either do a trial and error just placing and re doing what is bad or you can put the recording mode on over imput so as the song's playing you can place arrows(but it's hard sometimes)
