regretful

I was going to post this in the "Future of Spin-It-Up" thread, but I wasn't sure if it really fit into the interface review.
Basically, what's the point? To get highscores. There is no failing songs, and there's not even a definitive pass-fail point. The score screen is pretty, with the bars, and the percentage gets the point across... But it still feels a bit lacking. You just flailed your mouse mightily, hitting who knows, and you get a number.
I'm not asking for a score breakdown. I don't care how many I missed, where my combo broke, or anything like that. These could be options to spice things up, but they don't really offer what I'm looking for. Also, a grade rating is rather subjective as songs seem to have a variety of acceptable ranges. 90% may be godly on one song, but average on another.
If you do well enough, you get your high score added to the list. Great motivation, but this is what I suggest: How about beyond your percentage rating, a percentile score? This would require a database to be kept of scores for each song, but something to match you up with the rest of the world.
Basically, keep a database of scores for each song. Maybe highest score per person(useful to display as well), or maybe just the last X number of plays for that song. Then you compare the current player's new score with the database. Are they within the top ten percent of scores? Or are they more average? Assign a grade relative to everyone else, as this joyful place called the internet is great for communication and competition alike.
S = Better than 90% of scores.
A = Better than 80% of scores.
B = Better than 70% of scores.
C = Better than 60% of scores.
D = Better than 50% of scores.
F = Below 50%, meaning below average.
You can change the grading system or value thresholds, but I think my point is expressed. Pluses and Minus like ITG, more possible scores. Maybe just little disk symbols, one per percentile.
Yeah, I hope that idea makes sense, even if it will tie up a bit more server storage/bandwidth. I'll check back after I get some sleep to make sure people grasp my concept. Huzzah for late night forum lurking.
