View Full Version : Reasons for disliking SIU?

I read a thread recently where someone posted that they would like to know why a person might not like the game. Here's a list of possiblilities.
Bad songs...
It's hard to tell which "curves" are closer to the circle. Be nice to have varying colors for eighth notes.
Lack of any menu-type items. Not even a start button.
No complexity beyond rapid streams of "curves."
P.S.
I really enjoy the game, it just needs more songs and a little more complexity.

If you'll read the notes posted, it clearly states that this is a pre-alpha release... it is only meant to have one song, and it isn't supposed to have a menu. It's just a concept that we released so users can get a feel for the game.
Just wait until we have our first beta release

Wouldn't publically releasing the alpha make it a beta?

because you paid for it.
anyway, I just don't like using my mouse that much. It's an interesting concept though. Maybe if there were clicking involved. It seems like the just letting your mouse sit there thing is kind of... weird. Like maybe you have to move it and click when it hits. I dunno... could just be me being too used to ffr.

I intend for it to be a new concept, trying to really move away from the whole arrow thing. Yet we are still triyng to hold onto the pull and addiction that you find with rhythm based games. It's difficult to create such a beast.

....
Like I said, I love the game, just a bit lacking. I think it would have been better to release a more complex version in a week or 2... Just my oppinion though.

eep, FFR just pulled a nintendo on us.
It's an interesting game. Moving the mouse actually feels natural once you get into the rhythm of things. Who knows? Maybe it will replace hitting keys.

*edit*
Right. there's such thing as upside down. Don't change the z and c keys. But it's no longer an "entirely mouse driven game" if you need to push butan (See under SIU flash window) And will the arcs ever be in places other than those four corners? I understand why when you say it will be "100% ffr compatable" but still.

We had to release a barebones version to see if it was worth pursuing.

Specs of your system please and a screen shot of your processes running from task manager would be nice.

Mr. Synthlight I know nothing about computers, therefore I have no idea what the hell you just said, but that's okay i like FFR better. There are many similarities between the problems I have with SIU and high-res FFR. If there ever comes a low-res SIU then it will probably work for me. My computer is just weak i geuss.
P.S. I actually got 40.95% now ZOMG :)

I like spin it up. I think it is a cool concept and a new spin (no pun intended) on rhythm games. the only problem i have with it is where the game tells you what percentage you got on that zone. Having the percentages in the center of the cirlce AND having the beats eminating from the center of the circle can be confusing at faster parts of the song. also, the double beats are a bit hard to spot, maybe a different color, or have like an X in the middle of the double so you know its coming.
I know its a prerelease, and you guys did an amazing job. I suck at flash and what you are doing with it is great. keep up the good work.

I like the whole moving away from the arrow based rhythm games, I like where its heading but I don't love the "pre-alpha" beta release.
I was playing it and watching the spinning dark bar and was thinking, "hey, they should have holds where you have to drag it along at the same speed of the bar and release it on the beat" Just an idea.
The layout is pretty smooth, I like the absence of edges on anything.

Specs = stuff like how much you can store into your harddrive, your RAM, ect.
Go here: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/ and just select some random game off the list and take a screenshot of all of your system information. That's the easiest way.
Running processes can be found by ctrl+alt+del and screenshotting the entire processes window.
To take a screenshot, press the "PRT SCRN/SYSRQ" next to scroll lock and save the image in MS Paint. Upload image to an image hosting site.

Perhaps I haven't played the game enough yet (it has only been out for a few days), but when there are numerous arcs shooting out very quickly, it is hard to tell which arc is going to arrive at the outside of the circle first.
I usually end up flailing my mouse around when I encounter situations like the one in the attached screenshot.

in osx you can go to the apple icon in the top left hand corner of the screen and click "about this mac"
for screenshot hit cmnd(the apple key)-shift-3. it should save it to your desktop or in your pictures folder.

Spinitup isn't working for me. All I see (when, on the rare occasion, it DOES work) is a black background with a white circle in the middle which pulsates during the beat.

That is why you can not play it. The average processor speed these days is about 2.5 GHZ. You only have a 350 MHZ processor. That is like the slowest ever made. The memory also is very low. All I can say is ditch the mac and get a brand new computer with at least 1.5 GHZ and 512 MB or ram (Memory). You could probably use a 50 GB hard drive for alot of room. And last, but not least, get a PCI Motherboard for your computer. It is very good.

The game is OK, but I don't really like games that require so much mouse control, especially since I use a touchpad on a laptop. Constant mouse movement on a touchpad can be difficult, particularly when you're looking for high accuracy like this game. Maybe it would be easier with a plain old mouse, but I still think I'd enjoy the regular keyboard FFR games more than the mouse-controlled Spin It Up game.

Umm... People with touchscreens(one hiding in garage, really looking for it now ;P) will dominate this game like nothing. I dun think exact thing will make it out there like FFR did. but with a whole lot more time in the programming department i can see this being enjoyable. Bring on the touchscreen asswhippers

I really love this concept. It's so...original, yet still stays along the same lines as DDR. Now immagine if you could get this to work with a web cam and use your hands. That would look kind of odd if you're sitting at your computer though. You'd be flailing your arms and look kind of retarded. Hell, if you can have a version we could burn on a CD in a format a PS2 could read, you could use an EyeToy.

I wonder if anyone thought of this reason for not liking the game..
It sucks?
I don't think SpinItUp sucks but I don't like it much, it's not really my type of game as of yet but who knows..

I'd like to see a full screen version so that I wouldn't have to worry about the mouse going off the screen so that the bar won't spin.

I'll second that. It's really annoying to have to make sure the mouse doesn't go out of the <embed>, lol

It should have a training mode where there are different boxes that will show you where to stick your mouse to get 100%. Because its really hard to get into the game, but that would make it much easier.
As in, 4 boxes in a square formation near the middle that would show suggested spots to put your mouse.
It's just not intuitive enough.
