I really really REALLY hope you're kidding.
If we think someone should be a mod, we'll approach them, not the other way around :P

Guys .. you leap too fast .. and despite my assurances to whiteflame .. most of the mods out here behaved exactly as he predicted.
When a user asks for some help in the chat .. what happens? Some forum mods jump into the chat forum, ridicule the poster and shut down the thread.
Put down the twinkies and step away ... sounding like the chat in here.
I want this thread open as I need and hope to hear from other chat mods in here. We are pushing some changes forward to help with things .. but I need to hear feedback and also making a few changes to support the development.

well i've run a few websites and Chat servers myself and it has been my experience that moderators should not only have good morals and be willing to help but also be ABLE to help. if a user is having trouble getting their camera to work or their mic is too quiet (only small examples) the mod should know how to get into the audio settings of the computer and change the properties so the user can view the microphone options. And aswell they need to know that not all web camera's are supported. while the majority are some of them are just not well built enough to be compatable with webbased chat (*has one :[ *). now i realize i am not a moderator and am not even close to knowing as much as Jason does. however i do know a lot of things about how websites work and the way they interact with the end user. this is a wonderful community and because it is a community i feel we need to help one another.
seeings how i am not a moderator or an admin i wish to ask permission before i offer this. Jason? would it be alright if i invited a few moderators to my chat every once in a while for some small teachings? if not is there a place i can post the info on here? like i said. i am not trying to insult or pester anyone. i just want to make this site one of the best on the web. it has already exploded with users, now lets make it explode with popularity!

Xiph, I appreciate the offer. As we are still pretty heavy in development, likely it may take a bit of time to get something along those lines organized ..
But stick around and allow us to get this one a bit more matured. (naturally I mean the software .. not sure how much hope there is for some in it).
As we get some of the more needed issues sewed up .. we can look at extending our moderator activities. Also, as I am not really a voice of the moderators .. it may take a bit of interest on their part .. and I certainly cannot guarantee their interest ..
Stick around though, as I think you will find some of the things that are coming focusing user management interesting.

I think the exact exchange was
MalReynolds: Why aren't I a mod yet?
Synthlight: Good question.
Synthlight: Refresh.
Mod - MalReynolds: Sweet.
What I left out was two years of fellatio.
Three years of good(ish) behavior, good attitude, apptitude for rule enforcement, general pleasant dispotion. And I touched a glowing meteorite piece in the woods.

1: don't ask questions like this (we get too many in the chat as it is)
2: follow the rules

Nice Mal.
On becoming a Forum Mod:
Chilled with Spook for a day in LA.
Was on the forums for 10+ hours a day at the time.
Had the support of Spook, Chardish, and LD.
Went to Synth and was like "d00d... you need someone to mod the forums during the day and late late at night." He was like "i kno, rite? u rok. plz maad mi bords. thx."
On becoming a Chat Mod:
Went into the chat for the 1st time in 2+ years.
Talked with JasonKey for 20 minutes.
Get asked to be Chat Mod from Jason. Convo was something like... Jason: "Tass. Everyone loves you. PLEASE let me increase your ffr-penis by making you a chat mod. PLEASE." Me: "I guess... if you insist. I mean, I'm NEVER in the chat, but, I mean... I am awesome. So, ok... I'll take on the responsibility."
Definately went something like that.
EDIT: But the moral of all this is... if you show that you are an active member of the community for a long period of time AND you follow the rules and work to help others do likewise, you WILL be noticed. Eventually.

Heh, 4 years ago I made a thread just like whiteflame on the first forum I was ever on. I was 14, what do you expect you know. He just took a year longer.
But some advice for you and others. To get my first moderation spot I was a good forumer for a year and became friends with the head moderator and the admin of the site, and then I got a spot. Once I did that I was able to realise how to become a moderator effectively, so I went on to another forum and became a moderator, and then with more good behaviour over 6 months I was made into admin. I admined that and another site for about 12-18 months (don't remember specifically). Also during that time I became a moderator on a teenhelp site that had 25,000 members and moderated 5 of their sections. All of it was fun but eventually I left foruming.
It was just this forum pulled me back into foruming a bit, but nowhere near as much as I used to be. Because through the years I've probably posted about 20,000 times compared to only almost 800 here.
But all I'm saying is that from all that experience I realise what you have to do to be a moderator, and it isn't easy, or fair at times.
1. Be here a long time, relative to the amount of posters/posts per day. For a forum like this you are looking at years.
2. For all that time be good in the respective eyes of those around you, for here that would be to be humourous, nice, friendly, and generally have a good attitude. On the teenhelp site it would have been to give advice correctly and generally not hurt people.
3. Become friendly with people in high places, not just for to get the place, but purely because sometimes those people are actually fun to talk to. It just doesn't hurt to know these people, you know. That or people who could become moderators in the future.
Hope all that helps.

...OK OK, I'll spill.
First, you must find fairy dust. not ANY fairy dust though--BLUE fairy dust. Then, you must get some holy water from the Pope. After that, you have to sprinkle that fairy dust and holy water on Synth's head, after touching his SOUL. Synth should then turn into a Holy Blue Synth Fairy and he MIGHT give you his blessing to go to the Cave of Evil after you meet up with the Man from Scene 24.
After you lobbeth thy Holy Hand Grenade at thine foe (after reciting the prayer to do so), you must find and slay Kai, the Royal Rapist. After making the journey back to Synth, he must cleanse Kai's blood. Afterwards, you must drink it, and rid your body of the fluids in Mt. Doom....
If I said the rest, I would be severely pwnt, so I shall refrain.
P.S.: If you thought I was being serious, leave the internet. Now.

It's quite simple actually.
1) Be nice. This causes people to notice you. (And like you as well.)
2) Moderate even without the title. Now by this I don't mean threaten to kick people out, but do as you would in a face-to-face situation: attempt to calm the angry/aggrivated/arguing person(s). Surprisingly, this actually works a lot of the time.
3) Hang out here, (in the chat I mean) a lot. These three things led me to a moderator position for a long time, after which I made a stupid mistake.
Anywho, yeah, that's pretty much it.

It seems the chat is going into a vigilante stage almost, with the user kicks in certain rooms and all. I suppose a decent number of chat mods are still needed in order to make virtuous kicks or whatever.

Becoming a mod? That sounds like an awful lot of responcibility...... but if ppl stride hard and volunteer for many hours etc..... Then I guess the person deserves the honorable rank of super moderator.......
I guess its my time to change the way I live and become more of a helper for the people.....
Helping little neophites was a pleasant time...... although the little beginners all qwned me at the end..... It was a fun experiencs to do and plus it is a good way to make lasting friends here in FFR........
I guess I will become a teacher to them novices again...... It must be my destiny here in FFR.....
I mean I sucked at everything else..... maybe except for school and airsoft

Members have the ability to ban other users in green rooms? That doesn't make sense, kicks are just for fun, my system is of harsh bannage and the sort.
