How do you go about doing it? I know you need something called X-step, but I can't find it. Also, are we allowed to submit liscensed music? If so, I've got quite a few. If not, I could try to make some...

Jambon,

You can use X-Step or Stepmania to edit your DWI files. Just make sure there are no freeze arrows in your piece and try not to go faster than 1/16th beat but if you do, then i will just build that functionality into my converter.

Ahhh.. The big debate on licensed music.

Well technically you cannot use licensed music in your work without permission of the copyright owner. Although I wonder..... Could FFR be considered a sort of internet radio station because we don't actually distribute the music for download?

I MAY be willing to put up the song and then only take it down if a copyright holder of that music complains. For most of my songs up I have been in direct contact with the artists who have made the music and they have given me permission to use most if not all their songs. Most artists like to have their work played as long as it is not distributed.

It is a touchy subject that is somewhere between promotion and piracy.

Cheers,

Synthlight

I can see where you might run into a problem with downloadable versions.

I'm creating a song using DWI, when I'm done, how can I send it to you so you can decide to post it or not? My email program wont let me send files big enough to send you the mp3 also...

The best thing to do would be to mail me the exact name of the .mp3 or a link to the .mp3 and then send the DWI steps and BPM/GAP in the email. I will take care of the rest.

when you make the downloadable version of ffr you could have two different ones. One that has no lisenced music (or lisenced music with permission to use it), and the other one with lisenced with a warning that says: you must legally own the songs or delete the game...(just my two cents worth) :)

Check the links section on the left nav. I provide links to as many tools as possible.

I have a few of those in the links section. If anyone wants to submit links to the link section, there should be an add button in that section.

Yeah, jambon=ham.
I remember almost all of the food in French, but almost nothing else :D

And, seriously, you don't need a simfile tool to make .dwi files. Just use notepad, which many people use to do their files. I made one last night in under an hour to a song my friend made and notepad, and it fits the music really well.
If you want to know how to use notepad:
http://www.ohioddr.com/ddr.php
and click on my .dwi FAQ.
It really isn't that hard to do and if you really want, I can write an updated FAQ on how to do it and maybe give it to Synthlight to put up somewhere.

If you want to email me that FAQ, I would be more than happy to put it up on the site.

So, if I make an original piece, and make a dwi file for it, you will decide whether or not to post it? That's cool. Alright, I'm in the process of making some songs, so maybe i'll hit ya with 'em... Later...

jambon also means ham in Spanish... Romance-based languages are weird.
