In related news: Miles "Tails" Prower is in fact a male. This is evident not only in his name (which is that of a male), but by every animated television programming. Tails is always obviously a male in them.

And if he were a female, he would act much more feminine, like Amy or something.

They just wanted 2 make it sound like an awesome name (succeeded)
I have a friend who works for Sonic Team.
Even he told me about it.
He's 1 of the creators of Espio.
He's the creator of Tails and he made it a girl.
Other Sonic Team creators didn't want this info to go international so they hid it in different profiles.They decided to cover up Tails as a woman by making her name Miles Prower.Sonic Team also changed the way Tails acted.My friend made Tails act feminine but other Sonic Team creators changed that too.
