View Full Version : FFR Yearbook

For those of us in High School, and as the year draws to a close, we often find ouselves passing and signing yearbooks; remembering the good times.
I thought it might be a good idea (given the support) to make up an FFR Yearbook. It would have the User Name, the Real Name, Avatar, Signature, and Real Picture of the users that want to be included. I would throw together a yearbook design in InDesign or something, include whoever wanted, save it as a PDF, and upload it for anyone who wanted it.
WE COULD EVEN SIGN IT LOL
Yeah, but I just thought it was a good idea, anyone in?

Grade level should go by year. If you made your first post in...
Beginning to July 1st 2003, you're a Senior.
July 2nd 2003 to July 1st 2004, you're a Junior.
July 2nd 2004 to July 1st 2005, you're a Sophomore.

Squeek, unless you are in an elementary school, teachers are mostly one subject. Thus, media would be yours. You could also double over as an English.
On a side note, you could have the 2004 FFR awards page in there, have the people's pictures, and put there respective award next to there name in the book. Sort of like Class awards, such as best looking.

Time for a patented eb listing of stuff.
1) I do not know what year I am in now...I will edit this post to declare whether I'm a Junior or Senior (at least, I'm pretty sure I'm one of those >_> )
EDIT: April is before July, so I'm a Senior? Sweeeeeeeeet.
2) I will now open my yearbook to see what kinds of things they have in it and to suggest what we should have
a) Okay, the pictures of us as our "official picture" thing, definitely.
b) This yearbook has random pictures of people like, in class. We should get random shots of people at their computers!
c) Hmmm, the staff should be on the faculty page. No making stuff up, make their position relevant.
d) More random pictures of activities and sports....we could ask people to submit photos of them doing stuff for their school. Like, Amanda could have rowing pictures, for example.
e) Pictures of teams and clubs...there are some obvious groups on FFR. It would be really cool if somebody could cut us all out and paste us on a field or auditorium so it looks like a group shot. If we could get some people to act like they're leaning on people and have them doing that, and others sitting down in front, it could be great. Clubs would be like, FFR Chat kids, TWG people (with TWC up front and pro looking), WSC people, Red Army of Chardish people, The Post Whore club (or something similar), The Cam Whore club (for people who have posted like, 80 bajillion pictures in the pic thread), Band (all the people who make music for FFR), and uh, more stuff like that. It can't hurt to have 50 different clubs, I think.
f) The FFR Award thing instead of superlatives, or we could do both? It'd be easier to just use the awards, though.
g) There's a section in here with baby pictures.....THAT WOULD BE FRIGGIN SWEET FOR OUR YEARBOOK OMGWTFYES!!!!1111oneoneeleventy
h) The letter h is irrelevant.
3) How will we sign the stuff? I, for one, am going to sign my magnadoodle and scan it and ask for that to be put on everybody's signature page. Other people, however, may have to just write their name in MSPaint, however. What would be the best way to sign, in you guys' opinions?
4) About having avatars/sigs in the yearbook. Definitely shouldn't have sigs, since they change a lot and we'll already have actually signatures in another part of the yearbook. As for the avatar...I think we should be able to pick which avatar we use. I, for one, would use the biohazard hair avatar I used for quite some time. In fact, I think I may switch back to that one soon...
5) I think I had something else, but I forget. But I put this here anyway because 5 is a cool number.

Listen to the voice of reason on this one.
This is a very, very, very good idea as long as you do not try to emulate school yearbooks. FFR is not school, and it is very different from school. Don't try to draw parallels that don't really apply, don't do the whole teacher/faculty thing because that's not what goes on here. FFR is its own unique place with its own unique culture. Capitalize upon that, and this will be a fantastic work. Ignore and suppress that, and it will be highly derivative and largely uninteresting.

This is a great idea. I would love putting this together.
EDIT: That would make me a Junior (Old account)
This shouldn't be downloadable, it needs to actually be published. It would cost money too, big deal.
Sports, has to be SM, DDR, IIDX players and stuff. Pictures, take some random pictures on your dance pad or at your computer playing SM.
a) Have a page containing the top 10-20 posters on it.
b) Pages with the members of the FFR Usergroups would be cool, but the TWG usergroup is very big and might take up two pages. If TWG is added, use the people who have played in at least one game.
c) Add the history of TWG and maybe jTWG too.
d) Have a page for the current FFR Radio DJ's
e) Have a page for the FFR simfile team. R2 team too I guess.
f) Include some really noobish posts by a bunch of people, to embarrass them.
g) Include the FFR website stats. (How many people have come to this site, how many have registered.)
h) A list of the banned members?
i) List the top 25 ranked FFR Multiplayer people.
j) Avatars yes, sigs no.
k) Show a picture of the 1,000th, 100,000th, 200,000th, 300,000th and maybe 400,000th forum posts.
More ideas may pop up.

Goin with chardish on the FFR keeps its style.
Also, Synth made this on November 26th, 2002.
I say we should split up grades in equal amounts of time. There have been a total of 32 months (at the end of June) that FFR has been in existence. We should have each class be a span of 8 months from the beginning.
Senior Nov 26 2002 - July 25 2003
Junior July 26 2003 - March 25 2004
Sophomore March 26 2004 - Nov 25 2004
Freshman Nov 26th 2004 - Until this book is finished.

May be not call them grades, but they should be split up somehow. Oldbies, newbies, and.....middlebies? We can't just throw anybody in there together. Some of us are way too elitist for that to be acceptable.
Of course, grades are an easier way to split it up, and some of the "freshmen" would get more offended by being called "newbies" and the term "senior member" is already common, so it's not that big of a deal. Chardish, I agree that we shouldn't model it completely after a school yearbook, but some things (like grades) just make sense. Besides, it's not your yearbook, it's everybody's, and most people seem to like the grade idea.

Having 9.29 posts per day doesn't make you better than any of us, it just makes you newer and more of a spammer. Don't say you're on FFR more than me, either, as I am on FFR pretty much during all of my free time.

When did I say I was better than anyone? I was saying if someone had one post and it was in 2002, they wouldbe a 'senior' even though no one knows who they are. I was suggesting that seniors should be the most well known people, which are the people who post on the forums a lot.
I also never said I was on FFR more than you.

Well, if we arn't going to use grades, maby we could split up be our skill on FFR (not sm/dwi). I think we should use FFR because then it is a site exculsive thing. Yes, I realize that this would be hard to do and we would not use the ranking system as that is mostly who plays the most. The multiplayer ranking system would be a close representation of skill but even thats not perfect. If anyone could think of a better way to catorgorize (sp) FFR skill, then i think that that would be the best option.

Grade level should go by year. If you made your first post in...
Beginning to July 1st 2003, you're a Senior.
July 2nd 2003 to July 1st 2004, you're a Junior.
July 2nd 2004 to July 1st 2005, you're a Sophomore.
Dunno about Freshmen >_>
And the Staff are the teachers.

YOU CONTRADICT YOURSELF IN THE EXACT SAME POST, AMAZING
I think we should have grades, as has been mentioned since. No where in your original post did you say that we shouldn't split up into grades.
I would say time spent here is a parallel that applies.
And dammit if we do use a grade system:
Senior Nov 26 2002 - July 25 2003
Junior July 26 2003 - March 25 2004
Sophomore March 26 2004 - Nov 25 2004
Freshman Nov 26th 2004 - Until this book is finished.
That actually accounts for Freshmen.
Mindfields
June 15th, 2005, 10:03 AM
If we're gonna do this thing by grades, we shouldn't let any 'freshmans' in it, we don't know how long they're gonna stay, and most of us hardly know them at all. Example: xhotxgothyxgirlx wants a yearbook from us because she's a dits (I've always wondered if dits was spelled with a z or a s...) and thinks that we're selling her schools yearbook. So she submits and all that crap, and gets the yearbook...over the internet? wtf? And then the very next day she gets her regular school yearbook, and oh, look, there are people she actually knows in it.
Yeah, that would moderatley suck. Then there's the space that would be taken up just making the file bigger and bigger...
FishFishRevolution
June 15th, 2005, 11:51 AM
We gotta have the freshman/noob section, it just wouldn't be the same without it. FFR will always have them, the yearbook will just show the ones that we happen to have now. They might as well be the same people, with different handles.
As far as printing this thing out, when i thought of it, that was one thing i wanted to do, but didn't think i'd have the support on. When i get a template together and have a rough page count, i can get a price estimate to print it at my old boss's shop.
Sorry I don't have anything to show on this thing yet, I'd like to say that i'm just waiting for more pictures, but the submission thread is up to three pages. The real reason is that I've had work every day this week and no free time, but next week, and this weekend possibily will be better.
Who would want to be on a yearbook staff? I already know of two or three who have spoken to me already; I'll need five or six people.
emccky
June 15th, 2005, 11:55 AM
why don't we make it on what others think you should be? Like how senior of a member you are depends on a voting group of maybe 10 people, that are like LD, jewpin, chardish, synth, maybe tnyhwk and some others.

Yo yo yo, i got the first template, just threw somehting together, tell me what else should go on here.
The pictures are obviously the 8 boxes closest to the center, but the faded boxes behind each user's text will be their avatars. The grade level has been listed there in each user, and that will stay if i do the whole yearbook soley in alphabetical order. If i seperate the grades, the symbol indicating the grade will appear at the top (as seen by the J).
What else what else...there will be quotes in different places and page numbers. Gotta have something for the bottom though. Ideas anyone?

I already voted for grade divisions, but i changed my mind. The people with higher rank go first. ex. site owner, site admin, mods, etc... Then maybe the 3 worlds (game, forums, chat) and high post count, high scores, game ranks, and frequent chat room visitors. Just basic ideas.

Guys, an update on this yearbook thing, I'm going to wait to put the designs down for each user until almost all the people who want in submit an entry. It's a lot easier to put it in alphabetical order when you don't have to keep shifting down.

I DO think that people need to be divided up... I think it would be better if the people with seniority of FFR are grouped together, and the newer people who joined, like, 2 weeks ago, are in the latter of the yearbook... What would you rather see, people like Moogy, LD, myself, and Bandit for example, or people like Synth, Drew3496, Smash420, and Mickey... Get my point? People who have been here should be grouped together, and not put alphabetically with people that are new and NOBODY knows... Hopefully you get my point...

That's the best idea that's been brought up about it, IMO.
Who all is going in the yearbook, though? It's not like we can include everyone. I say you have to post in the thread to be in it.
I'll get a picture of me with a digital camera sometime, my sister's boyfriend has one and I can just steal his.
I think sigs should be disregarded and avatars should be optional. Perhaps only the most memorable avatars should go in it, and maybe all in one section.
I say wait for releasing it until we get to the FFR Meetups. Once then, we can take photos of it and post them.
I think that idea should definitely be incorporated. Everyone, bring your digital cameras to the meetups :>
