Hello. I have come to believe I want to learn chess. I need guidance, however. Profile search guided me toward you, can you offer anything?
Perhaps that was an ill greeting, but I find human interaction more enthralling than a Google search. Also, fiffer, eh--send help! Chess pieces jumping overboard!

Thx for return :3 (also, in the chess tournament thread, I think what Darkness meant is that you gotta tell her your username on the chess website haha) :p

I've seen you around the site! Is your name really Chess?! That's a really sick name! xD To answer your question, I'm currently studying general math, but I'm considering number theory when I attend graduate school (if I even have a chance xD). I might also consider algebra and analysis once I've taken the classes at college :].

It covers both but it leans more toward position.

yeah, I have his endgame too. The one I found is "How to Reassess Your Chess" It talks about some noob endgame stuff, then delves into the middlegame and covers it pretty well.

Yeah, those, a few others, a little hypermodern. I did pick up quite a few texts on the middlegame (mostly by Silman) and the endgame (not by Silman) and the Graham Burgess book, which I practically broke the spine on from using it so much. Then it suddenly stopped being fun. I don't know why.

Chess, huh...I got as far as learning a few lines of the major openings (e4, d4, English, and their main lines), reached about 1500, then quit. That was around the time I was 15, it's been two years since I did much.
